Households and small retailers often waste food because expiry awareness and action prompts are fragmented. We wanted a simple mobile flow that keeps expiry context visible and actionable.
Waste-0 is an iOS SwiftUI app with a splash-to-home transition, tabbed navigation (fridge, transactions, scan, recipes, buy), and a camera capture path for item intake. A Core Data container is initialized for persistence plumbing.
Tech choices were selected for fast hackathon iteration, clear separation of concerns, and deployable paths beyond demo scope.
System architecture is shown as a single cleaned diagram for readability.
The main learning was UX clarity: simple reminders and quick capture matter more than heavy feature count early on. Next version would complete full persistent CRUD and connect transaction/recipe tabs to real data models.
